Past President’s Message
Since 2015, the Brain Injury Alliance has been proud to support the work of the registered charitable brain injury societies of British Columbia. Over these five years, some amazing work has been completed and thousands of BC residents living with brain injury have been served. In 2018-2019 alone, Alliance member agencies served in excess of 4000 people who are living with brain injury. We also served family members, landlords and employers. As always, the stories of real lives changed as a result of our work speaks volumes. It is when you meet the individuals in the “Stories” section of our website that the meaning of what we do now, and what we must continue to do in the future, becomes real.
The members of the Alliance board are active in our local brain injury societies and we know first hand how hard people with brain injuries work to move forward in their lives. We know too how hard all of the staff of our societies work to help people along their path. Alliance funding has made it possible for local brain injury societies to significantly increase their staff teams. It is through these skilled and committed staff that we make an impact in people’s lives. We are proud that together we have been able to enhance services to people with brain injury in BC.
In the summer of 2020, the Alliance will allocate the final grants from the funds provided by the government of British Columbia in 2015 and 2017. If all goes according to plan we will have a commitment for on-going funding long before this potential end date. We are working diligently to ensure that this happens, however, we may be asking member agencies, supporters and the people we all serve to support this endeavour.
Thank you for your support of the Alliance and for the work that you do, one person at a time.
Dr. Henry Harder

“The Alliance makes it possible for us to continue with this vital program (What’s Next Peer Support). This program creates the desire to make a difference in their lives and the lives of other peer supporters…with the tools to help them move forward.”
