Testimonial to the value the Brain Injury Group is providing to the clients at Prince George Regional Correction Centre.
This is an observation only as noted by myself, a Correctional Supervisor of Programs on one individual.
Client is a 22 year old male repeat offender, repeat periods of incarceration.
This individuals past behaviour has been documented as immature, acting out, challenging, demanding and as having many peer issues which has also resulted in his receiving several internal charges and subsequently spending time in Segregation.
During his current period of incarceration he made a decision and chose to participate in the Corrections Acquired Brain Injury Education offered at PGRCC by the Brain Injury Group.
My observation is that there has been a significant change in this individual’s pattern of behaviour since he has started attending these educational sessions. He can still display immature behaviours and act out from time to time but overall;
- his demeanour is much calmer
- his peer interactions are more positive
- he has only had one internal charge this period of incarceration and that was early on
- he has become less challenging and demanding with staff
- since attending the BIG sessions, he has chosen to attend other programs and his participation and positive contributions have been noted as very good
Overall, a significant and impactful change in behavioural as a direct result of participating in these educational sessions.
