Prince George Brain Injured Group received funding for critical concerns, to increase operational efficiencies, to create and produce their Rebuilding after Brain Injury course, and to run a pilot brain injury education course in a Corrections facility for both staff and inmates.
The Correction Acquired Brain Injury Education program has achieved a positive increase in coping scores for 87% of the inmates who have completed the program. When changes in group scores for pre and post program coping levels are considered, there was a positive increase in 10 of 16 areas.
The life changing 22 week Rebuilding After Brain Injury course (formerly “Coping Strategies”) nears completion. This amazing course, sought after nationally and internationally, will be provided to Alliance members at no charge, allowing agencies to further serve their clients.
Two offshoot programs are also well underway. The Anger Management and Family After Brain Injury components are becoming programs of their own.
From the Corrections Acquired Brain Injury Education program in Prince George:
- “This program has been helpful, I’ve been able to identify behaviors and habits, which allows me to acknowledge and work on these issues to correct them.“
- “This program has changed the way I look at brain injury.“
- “It has given me some positive support within a positive atmosphere.“
- “This program meant a lot, that there is help out there, especially for my brain injury.”
The Prince George Brain Injured Group is deeply grateful for Government’s response to the funding disparity being experienced by the BC brain injury community, and for the hard work the Brain Injury Alliance has done to improve this ongoing situation.
